We now have confirmation of two terrific book events, with many more to follow. See the events page for a complete list.
NEW YORK: Wednesday, February 26, 6pm – GustOrganics, 519 Sixth Avenue @14th Street
25th Anniversary of the Alar Alarm and the Panic for Organic
a celebration of the organic foods industry
On February 26, 1989, 60 Minutes aired a segment entitled “A is for Apple,” highlighting the dangers posed to kids and others who eat lots of apple product by the chemical agent daminozide, otherwise known as Alar. The reaction around the country was swift, and soon there was what Newsweek called a “panic for organic.” That was the single event that launched the modern natural foods industry.
Join us at New York’s first certified organic restaurant, and the world’s only certified organic bar, as we revisit the Alar crisis and the progress made by the natural foods industry in the last 25 years. Featured speakers are Drew and Myra Goodman, the New York natives who founded Earthbound Farm and built it into one of the largest and most important organic brands in the world. Sample the marvelous foods of GustOrganics. Copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing.
